At St Bernadette's Catholic School, we believe that working in partnership with families is fundamental to achieving the best outcomes for every child, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Parents and carers know their children best. By working together, sharing knowledge and maintaining open, honest communication, we can develop a shared understanding of each child's strengths, interests and needs. This enables us to provide the right support at the right time, helping every child to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
​
We are committed to listening to the views of children and their families and ensuring that parent voice plays an important role in shaping and developing our SEND provision. We value feedback and regularly use it to inform improvements across our school.

Parent Coffee Mornings
​
We hold regular Parent Coffee Mornings, providing an opportunity for parents and carers to meet with the SEND team, external professionals and other families in an informal and welcoming environment.
Each session is supported by one of our external agencies and is themed around the needs of our pupils and the topics that parents have told us they would like to know more about. Previous sessions have included communication and language, neurodiversity, emotional wellbeing, sensory needs and understanding the graduated approach.

These sessions provide opportunities to:

learn practical strategies to support your child at home;

hear from specialist professionals;

ask questions in a relaxed environment;

meet other families and share experiences; and

help shape future SEND provision at St Bernadette's.

Recommended Parent Resources

We understand that receiving new information about your child's needs can sometimes feel overwhelming. Access to high-quality, trusted information can make a real difference.
​
We recommend the Neurodiversity Booklet produced by the Birmingham Parent Carer Forum. It provides practical advice, information and guidance for families of neurodivergent children and young people. The Birmingham Parent Carer Forum works to ensure that the voices of parent carers influence local SEND services and improve outcomes for children and young people.
