At St Bernadette’s, our curriculum is rooted in our Catholic mission and our motto, “Learn to Love, Love to Learn.” We are committed to providing a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive curriculum for every child, enabling all pupils to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and character they need to flourish.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to build knowledge progressively, develop curiosity and deepen understanding, while ensuring that learning is meaningful, engaging and accessible. We have high expectations for every pupil and believe that barriers to learning should never limit ambition.
Inclusion is threaded throughout our curriculum. We know our children well and adapt teaching and provision in response to their strengths and needs. Particular attention is given to areas of identified need within our school community, including speech, language and communication, oracy, and social, emotional and mental health, so that pupils are supported to participate fully and succeed across the curriculum.
Through strong teaching, rich vocabulary, purposeful experiences, wider opportunities and carefully planned support, we want every child to recognise their unique gifts and talents, grow in independence and resilience, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
As a Catholic school, our curriculum goes beyond academic achievement. We seek to develop the whole child, helping our pupils to understand their responsibility to others, care for God’s creation, show respect and compassion, and use their gifts to make a positive difference in the world.
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10
Every child is known, valued, challenged and supported to flourish.
