Year 5 have studied the life of John the Baptist during Advent.
They wrote a play-script to show an understanding of the reaction of Zechariah when the Angel Gabriel announced the birth of John the Baptist.
Year 5 also wrote an advert to recruit Christians showing the qualities needed for this role.
As part of their study of the Sacrament of Baptism, as well as a play-script, Year 5 also wrote a report, a letter or a diary account of the Angel Gabriel’s visit to Zechariah.
They researched information about the life of John the Baptist in the Bible and on the Internet before writing a fact-file about his life.
Year 5 have been learning about extreme weather conditions.
They wrote an imaginary account of experiencing the devastation of F3 tornado in Moore, Orlando in 2013.
2A and list Alan Peat sentences, varied sentence openers, exciting verbs, adverbs and adjectives as well as vocabulary of emotions have been included .
Tornado Alley in the USA is the place in the world that gets more tornadoes than anywhere else in the world. Hundreds of tornados, also known as twisters, happen there every year! A tornado is a spiralling funnel of air which descends from a storm clouds. It is formed when warm air is drawn in at the base of the cloud. It then rises upwards, spiralling as it does so to create a funnel.
Tornadoes are vicious and destroy anything in their path.
The strongest ones can reach speeds of 300mph and can be up to a kilometre wide. They can pick up buildings, people, animals, cars and trees.
After studying the myths of Ancient Greece in literacy, Year 5 have written their own imaginative myths.
They have included exciting, ambitious vocabulary in their choice of adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

Children in KS2 have written news reports in all subject areas to reinforce their literacy skills across the curriculum.

In year 5, we have been researching internet safety. We have also been creating our own spreadsheets and have used formulas to help us to design our dream bedroom.
We created our own Battleships' board game and used this to help us learn to locate specific cells. We used data loggers to gather information about light, sound and temperature levels around the school.
5SM have been creating models in the style of Umberto Boccioni.
